Why not just ask ChatGPT to remove the watermark?
Because image models regenerate rather than edit. You get a fresh picture built to resemble the original, so faces drift, text scrambles, and the resolution resets. This tool changes only the area you brushed and leaves the rest of the file identical.
Does removing the visible mark strip the invisible metadata?
No, and you should not assume it does. Many AI images also carry C2PA content credentials embedded in the file. Erasing pixels does not touch that, and any provenance signal baked into the image data stays where it is.
Will the removal be noticeable?
On a plain or gently textured background it is effectively invisible, because the fill is reconstructed from the pixels around it. Over fine repeating detail — text, brickwork, faces — the patch can be visible, and a second smaller brush pass usually cleans it up.
